Powering the Future with Bute Energy

Wales needs 25,000 green jobs by 2050, including planners, project managers and engineers to name just a few of the roles which need filling. In fact, up to 2,000 of these jobs will be created by Bute Energy’s onshore wind energy projects alone!  But who will build, operate and deliver the projects when there is such a skills shortage here in Wales?

Check out our Net Zero Skills website

The good news is – we believe we can be part of the solution to this big challenge. Bad news is – we don’t have much time to do it.

Our Net Zero Skills Strategy looks to build a pipeline of talent to feed into the renewable energy industry to strengthen the supply chain in Wales.  From education in the classroom and helping more young women and girls to study STEM subjects, to paid internships and collaboration with the higher education sector – our work has already begun.

Industry collaboration

What about when you’re ready to enter the green energy industry? How does it work and where can I find ways in?

This is where our industry leading approach to procurement comes in. Where possible, our suppliers will commit 2% of the value of their contract with us to support challenges that are important to the communities closest to our wind energy parks. That might include improving employment opportunities for local people – therefore a supplier that is in a position to do so could support through upskilling and training. Watch this space as our journey continues!

Paid internships at Bute Energy

Imagine kickstarting your career with hands-on experience in one of the fastest-growing sectors: renewable energy. At Bute Energy, we’re empowering the next generation of energy leaders.  22-year-old Tegid Phillips from Cardiff was one of over 60 people to apply for our 2024 summer internship programme – where students can gain hands-on experience within the workplace of a Welsh energy developer.

Tegid was kind enough to share with us, and with our readers, his Bute Energy Summer Internship experience.

“I think the best thing is that there is a place for everyone, you don’t have to be an engineer or have a technical role. There is a vast range of jobs within the industry. Moreover, I believe that the climate change emergency is one of the world’s most pressing issues so therefore it is important for me to play my part!”
