The IMI

The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) was founded in 1920 when society – as now – was experiencing rapid technology-driven change. The IMI was created to establish new skills and knowledge benchmarks for the emerging automotive industry.

At the IMI, we believe passionately that the automotive industry is a driver of innovation, employment and economic growth. We believe the people working in the industry need the most relevant, up-to-date skills and qualifications in order to progress – especially during times of intense change.

IMI’s purpose is to provide, and continuously evolve, the means by which people working in the automotive sector can attain relevant professional competence and appropriate recognition.

Automotive careers are evolving to meet the needs of our future, and today’s pupils are a key part of that transition

The Automotive sector has taken significant strides to meet the demands of a greener and more sustainable future, needed to protect our environment for future generations.

Competition: Design the vehicle of the future

We want you to design the vehicle of the future for 2030 with a specific target market in mind.

Over the last 100 years cars have come a long way, in fact most of the companies you know today would not have even existed. We would like you to research and think about what vehicles will look like in in the future to support individuals and help us shape the future of the sector.

Either individually or in teams of 4-6 work together to research, design, market and pitch your new vehicle. Keep in mind your target audience and use your unique selling point (USP) to make your vehicle stands out from the crowd!

Finally send in a copy of your presentation or pitch to [email protected] or post it in, for it to be marked by the panel of industry judges.
